22 eager stoats and 4 keen MAM members attended this meet which was blessed with dry weather for most of the weekend. On Saturday, climbing groups set off early for Wallabarrow Crag, Raven Crag Langdale and Pavey Ark, whilst the ‘boulderers’ tested their skills in the Kentmere valley. After a good day on the crags the main activities began. The evening started with a brilliant firework display followed by a pub crawl (3 pubs for those who had the stamina)! One UBMC member provided entertainment by traveling around the hut and Coniston village on a ‘skate cycle’; thankfully, no bones were broken! The evening was rounded off with the usual punishing challenges: 2 finger hang game, broomstick game and cardboard box game.Rumour has it that MAM member I ‘fleximan’ P won all of these. On Sunday, 2 enthusiastic freshers sneaked off early to climb 2 routes on Dow crag. The rest of us enjoyed a more leisurely start and had a misty day on Pike ‘O Blisco, climbing on Long Scar and Black Crag, where some UBMC members did their first outside leads. Prior to the meet, I had some reservations about co-ordinating a climbing meet in the Lake District in mid November, but I must admit I was sorry to go home on the Sunday evening. The UBMC members are very good company and an excellent time was had by all.
