Nine members of the MAM, including the new Hon. Secretary, together with four of his family, started from Darjeeling and returned safely to Kalimpong. Everyone successfully completed the trek through rhododendron forests and across many passes. Kanchendzonga and associated peaks (Kabru, Ratong etc) were seen from a number of places, but not from the closest viewpoints because of cloud on those days. Three members of the party climbed to Goecha La (4900 m), probably the first party to reach there this year because of deep snow following heavy falls during the winter. We received excellent service from all the staff including Uden, our guide/sirdar, Raj Kumar, our cook, the assistant cook, the ten cook boys, five sherpas, and up to 31 porters and 16 Dzhos. This was our last campsite beside the Singalila ridge before we joined the more popular trek route to Goecha La at Dzongri. It was also our last good view of the sun and mountains for several days!
